Hotel Reviews: Grand Cayman Marriott Resort - A Family Paradise Reclaimed on Seven Mile Beach
Updated: 5 days ago

For years, the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort was infamous in travel circles as the "hotel that lost its beach." Severe erosion along the southern stretch of Seven Mile Beach practically erased the shore, forcing the property to quietly drop "Beach" from its name while guests were left lounging on a concrete sea wall instead of powder-soft sand.
That history is what made our recent 6-night stay so remarkable: the beach is officially back, and the resort is once again a true waterfront getaway.
By combining strategic credit card sign-ups with a clean Marriott Bonvoy point redemption, we took our family of four on a high-end Caribbean trip that felt top-tier without the eye-watering price tag. For anyone tracking point strategies on Resort Chasers, this property is a textbook case of how to stretch rewards into a legit luxury family vacation..
The Redemption Strategy: Maximizing the "Brilliant" Value

The Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort is located at 389 West Bay Road, Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman, KY1-1202, Cayman Islands. Staying on Seven Mile Beach can easily command rates of $800–$1,200 per night during peak season. To offset this, we combined two of the most powerful tools in the Marriott Bonvoy arsenal:
The 85K Free Night Certificate: This came courtesy of the Amex Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® Card. With the property often pricing around 70k–85k points per night, this certificate covered our first night perfectly.
The "Stay for 5, Pay for 4" Benefit: By redeeming 288,000 Marriott Bonvoy points for the remaining five nights, we triggered the 5th-night free program.
Effectively, we secured nearly a week in paradise for the "cost" of four nights of points and one annual credit card perk.
The Big News: The Beach is Back

If you haven't visited this property in the last twelve months, you wouldn't recognize the shoreline. Following a massive restoration project that involved shipping in thousands of cubic yards of sand and installing low-profile rock groynes, the resort now boasts a wide, swimmable beachfront.
Gone are the days of walking down a ladder directly into the ocean. There is now ample space for loungers, sandcastle building, and that quintessential Caribbean walk along the water’s edge. The groynes have done an excellent job of keeping the turquoise water calm, making it much safer and more enjoyable for kids to splash around without being battered by the surf.
Underwater Wonders and Ocean Adventures

The fresh sand didn't just give the resort its shoreline back—it turned the water right outside our room into a giant natural aquarium. The ocean here is absurdly clear and calm, making it dead simple to wade in with a 5- and 9-year-old without constantly worrying about rough surf or strong currents.
You also don't need to shell out for a crowded boat tour to see great marine life. The reef sitting right in front of the property is packed with fish just a short swim from the shore. A few highlights from our snorkeling runs:
* A baby stingray drifting right along the sandy bottom near the coral.
* A perfectly hidden octopus blending into the reef ( spotting that was easily the biggest highlight for the kids).
* Parrotfish and neon-blue tangs everywhere you looked.

When we weren't underwater, we were lounging in the circular floating rafts soaking up the warm sun while staring at the activities taking place on shore. We also grabbed paddle boards and canoes in the morning before the sun got too heavy, which was a great way to check out the coast. If you want something faster, they also have jet skis available for rent right off the sand if you feel like heading out into the open water.
The Summerhouse Experience

The resort’s branding revolves around the "Summerhouse" concept, which aims to evoke the feeling of an endless, breezy summer. This isn't just a marketing slogan; it’s a design philosophy that permeates the property.
The lobby is bright and airy, filled with blonde woods, nautical textures, and local art. The scent alone—a custom "Summerhouse" fragrance—immediately signals that you’ve arrived. The staff embodies this relaxed-yet-attentive vibe, often greeting you with a smile and a "Welcome home" rather than a stiff check-in procedure.
Poolside Fun and Kids' Activities

While the new beach is a huge draw, the outdoor pool remains the heart of the resort. It’s strategically positioned between the hotel and the ocean, offering stunning views while you soak. We were initially worried about the size of the pool being able to accommodate the number of guests on the property but found many guests divided their time between the beach and pool so it wasn't issue. We also loved the fact that we were able to secure poolside loungers every day without an issue considering it was a very busy time of the year.
For families, the Marriott stands out for its sheer volume of "surprise and delight" moments. They have mastered the art of the poolside snack, which kept the kids perpetually entertained. Throughout the day, a bell would ring, signaling a new treat:
Free Cotton Candy & Popcorn: Freshly made and handed out to guests.
Popsicles & Ice Cream Sundaes: The ultimate reward after a long snorkeling session.
S'mores: As the sun began to set, the staff would fire up the fire pits for a classic evening ritual.
These small touches transform a standard hotel stay into a memorable family event. The kids felt like celebrities, and as parents, we appreciated that these weren't "extra-fee" upsells but part of the inclusive resort experience.
Dining: Culinary Delights from Ramen to Lamb Chops

The food on-property is above standard hotel fare, but one of the best things about the Grand Cayman Marriott’s location is how walkable it is to local favorites. You don't need to be stuck paying resort prices for every single meal. On site, we split our time between a few distinct venues and each delivered a unique experience.
Anchor & Den (The Breakfast Strategy):

As a Marriott Platinum member, we received two $15 KYD coupons per day. This roughly $18 USD value covered a significant portion of the a la carte menu. Items like the Avocado Toast ($19 KYD) or Breakfast Croissant ($17 KYD) meant we were only paying a few dollars out of pocket for gourmet entrées. They also have a very reasonable kids' menu with options like pancakes and eggs that kept our little ones fueled up.
Dinner Recommendations:
Beyond the morning rush, we explored the resort's diverse dinner options:
Ascia: For something a bit more contemporary and refined, we dined at Ascia. We highly recommend the ramen; it was rich, authentic, and the perfect comforting meal after a day in the salt and sun. Seating is very limited however so be sure to make reservations in advance.
Veranda: For the ultimate Caribbean ambiance, you cannot beat dining at Veranda. Situated right by the water, the breeze and the sound of the waves provide the perfect backdrop. We thoroughly enjoyed the lamb chops here—perfectly cooked, tender, and seasoned beautifully.
Off-site, two spots just minutes away became instant staples for us:

Peppers Bar & Grill: Located practically across the street, this is the ultimate low-key spot. You sit under a massive thatched roof and dig into huge portions of authentic jerk chicken, smoked ribs, and coconut rundown mahi. It’s noisy, lively, very kid-friendly, and way easier on the wallet than a formal sit-down dinner.

Tillies: A short walk up the beach at Palm Heights, Tillies offers that bright, retro-chic beach club atmosphere. The menu leans heavily into fresh local seafood and incredible Caribbean flavors, all served right on the sand. It’s the perfect pick for a date night or a slightly more elevated family dinner by the water. While seafood is main attraction, we opted for a steak dinner and we're very pleased with the outcome.
The Verdict

The Grand Cayman Marriott has completely earned back its spot as a top choice on Seven Mile Beach. Between the restored shore, the laid-back beach-house vibe, and staff that genuinely seem to like having kids around, it hits that rare sweet spot where a luxury point-redemption actually feels easy with a family.
Stacking an 85k certificate with the 5th-night-free perk makes the value absurd—you get a resort that normally runs $1,000+ a night, but with a warm, intimate feel rather than a sprawling corporate monster. Whether you’re hunting for octopuses in the reef or watching your kids track down their third free popsicle of the afternoon, it genuinely delivers on the hype.
Resort Chasers Tip: Grab a drink at Veranda for sunset. Even if you don't stick around for the full dinner, sitting by the water with a cocktail while the sun drops is the quintessential Cayman moment.
