Lounge Review: Chic Comfort Before Takeoff - Inside the Renovated Air France KLM Lounge at SFO

Updated: 6 days ago

If you're flying out of San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and looking to start your journey with a touch of French elegance, the Air France KLM Lounge in the International Terminal is a gem worth arriving early for. Recently renovated in late 2023, this refreshed space is now one of the most stylish and relaxing lounges at SFO and we finally got an opportunity to pay a visit recently.

The renovation has completely transformed the lounge, giving it a modern, airy feel while staying true to Air France’s chic Parisian roots. Soft lighting, natural wood tones, and sleek contemporary furniture create a warm and sophisticated vibe. There are quiet corners for solo travelers, communal areas for groups, and even tarmac views for those who love to watch the planes. It’s the kind of place where you can sink into a comfortable seat and feel like you’ve escaped the buzz of the terminal — even if just for a little while.

One of the highlights of the updated lounge is definitely the bar. It’s now a focal point of the space, with a classy yet inviting design and a great selection of drinks. French wines and champagnes take center stage, but there are also craft cocktails, spirits, and non-alcoholic options available. The bartenders are friendly and quick to offer suggestions, whether you’re in the mood for a crisp glass of Bordeaux or something bubbly before boarding.

Of course, no French lounge would be complete without some serious attention to food, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The buffet features a rotating selection of French and international dishes, with a focus on quality and presentation. You’ll find items like freshly baked croissants, quiches, charcuterie, and a selection of French cheeses that would make any wine pairing sing. There are also hot dishes — think Beef bourguignon, coq au vin, or seasonal pasta — and a dessert station with macarons, fruit tarts, and other sweet bites that could easily be found in a Parisian bakery.

What really sets this lounge apart is how well it blends form and function. The renovation didn’t just make it prettier — it made it more comfortable and efficient, too. Charging stations are easy to find, the Wi-Fi is fast, and there’s a good mix of seating whether you need to work, dine, or just unwind.

Access to the lounge is pretty straightforward. It’s open to Air France and KLM Business Class passengers, Flying Blue Gold and Platinum members, SkyTeam Elite Plus members, and select passengers traveling with other SkyTeam airlines. Priority Pass members once had access to use the lounge during non-peak hours before the renovation but now Priority Pass members who arrive at the Air France KLM Lounge get redirected upstairs to the Golden Gate Lounge at SFO.

Overall, the Air France KLM Lounge at SFO feels like a little slice of France tucked into the heart of the airport. Whether you’re heading to Paris or just passing through, it’s a great way to enjoy a taste of French hospitality — and a glass of champagne — before you board. If you're into lounges with style, substance, and a culinary edge, this one should be on your radar.
