Crete has always felt like a destination pulled from a dream—sunlit beaches, ancient myths echoing through the hills, and food that seems to hold the soul of the island in every bite. We were very excited to book Acro Suites (a luxurious hotel that was a Mr & Mrs Smith property affiliated with Hyatt at the time, but has since joined Hilton's SLH program) for our first Cretian experience. When we finally had the chance to spend three nights at Acro Suites in Agia Pelagia, we weren’t just checking into a hotel—we were stepping into an experience that redefined our understanding of luxury, relaxation, and authentic Cretan hospitality. We'd easily give Acro Suites a 10 out of 10 rating.

Cliffside Escape with a Soulful Design
Tucked high on the cliffs above Mononaftis Bay, Acro Suites feels like it was carved out of the land itself. The resort offers 49 suites and villas, each with its own private pool that spills out toward the horizon. From the very first step into the property, the design impressed us: sleek and minimalist, yet organic and warm. Local stone, wood, and soft earthy tones gave everything a natural, grounding feel. We were immediately struck by the breathtaking views, which seemed to pour into every corner of the property. The design ethos here isn't about ostentation, but about harmonious integration with the stunning surroundings, allowing the natural beauty of Crete to take center stage.
As we walked through the resort, the views were endless—every terrace, pathway, and restaurant seemed angled toward the vast blue of the Aegean. The design itself felt like part of the therapy: uncluttered, calming, and deeply connected to the island’s rhythm.

Our Private Haven
Our suite quickly became one of those places you never want to leave. With a sun-soaked terrace and infinity pool that appeared to merge into the sea, it felt more like a private sanctuary than a hotel room. Mornings began with coffee by the pool, listening to the faint sound of waves, and evenings ended with majestic sunsets and glasses of Cretan wine under a sky heavy with stars.
Inside, the interiors were chic yet understated: a bed so comfortable it felt impossible to leave, a bathroom that resembled a personal spa, and thoughtful touches everywhere—from high-quality linens to a subtle aroma of local herbs. Every detail felt carefully chosen to encourage ease and comfort.

A Culinary Journey
Food is often the heart of travel for us, and at Acro Suites, it became a highlight of the entire stay. The resort has two main dining options, each with its own charm.
Cremnos Restaurant quickly became our favorite spot for dinner. Open to the elements, it framed the sea in a way that made every meal feel cinematic. The cuisine focused on modern interpretations of Cretan traditions, using fresh, local ingredients. We savored meze spreads of creamy fava, dolmades wrapped with care, and calamari so fresh it seemed pulled straight from the bay. The grilled octopus was tender perfection, and the slow-cooked lamb carried a depth of flavor that spoke to generations of culinary wisdom. Paired with an impressive selection of Cretan wines, dinners here weren’t just meals—they were sensory celebrations. Breakfasts at Cremnos were equally indulgent. Fresh pastries, fragrant local honey, a rainbow of fruits, and tangy Greek yogurts made every morning feel abundant. Sitting in the soft morning light with such a spread before us was one of life’s simple luxuries elevated to the extraordinary.
Acro Suites also offers a second, distinctly different culinary journey at Umi restaurant. Dinner at Umi is a true exploration of sophisticated Nikkei cuisine, a vibrant and creative fusion that effortlessly marries the delicate precision of Japanese flavors with the spicy, fresh punch of Peruvian tradition. This gastronomic experience stands out for its ingenuity, featuring eclectic combinations and unexpected twists. While enjoying the breathtaking sea views, guests can savor highlights like the pristine chef's selection of sashimi and nigiri, and the famous chicken bao bun. But a particularly memorable dish is the decadent gyoza, served nestled in a rich, aromatic truffle sauce, providing a truly luxurious and globally inspired meal. This restaurant ensures that dining at Acro Suites is a celebration of taste and creative craftsmanship.

For daytime dining, The Circle, the resort’s pool bar, offered a more casual but no less delicious option. We loved their crisp salads bursting with local produce, fresh grilled fish, and sandwiches with inventive twists. Their cocktails, crafted with herbs and fruits, were a highlight—each one as refreshing as the view across the infinity pool. One of the most memorable experiences, though, was arranging a private dinner on our terrace. A curated tasting menu, the sea shimmering in moonlight, and impeccable service turned it into a night we’ll never forget.

Wellness at Its Core
While the suites and dining alone would have been enough, Acro Suites is also deeply rooted in wellbeing. The Bath House Spa is a marvel, built right into the natural rock formations. It includes a Byzantine hammam, a tranquil indoor pool, saunas, and treatment rooms designed for deep relaxation. Our couples’ massage dissolved every trace of tension, and afterward, we floated between the hammam and the pool in a blissful daze.
For those who prefer activity to unwind, the resort doesn’t disappoint. The fitness area was a surprise—bright, modern, and stocked with everything from free weights to resistance machines, all with panoramic views of the Aegean. Morning yoga classes in the open-air shala were the perfect way to greet the day, leaving us both grounded and energized.

Service with Heart
What truly set Acro Suites apart was its service. Every staff member we encountered seemed genuinely invested in making our stay memorable. They anticipated needs before we even voiced them, remembered our preferences, and always greeted us with warmth. From the front desk to the restaurant staff and housekeeping, there was a consistent sense of care and pride. This wasn’t just service—it was hospitality rooted in authenticity.

Beyond the Resort
Although Acro Suites felt like its own secluded world, the village of Agia Pelagia was just a short drive away. We wandered its beach, browsed small shops, and lingered at a seaside café one afternoon. It was a charming glimpse of local life, though we always looked forward to returning to the calm and privacy of our clifftop retreat.
Lasting Impressions
Three nights at Acro Suites passed far too quickly, but they left us profoundly refreshed and enchanted. Every element—thoughtful design, breathtaking views, exquisite food, rejuvenating spa treatments, and intuitive service—came together to create something extraordinary.
Acro Suites isn’t simply a place to stay; it’s a place that invites you to pause, breathe, and truly live in the moment. We left with lighter hearts, renewed spirits, and a shared dream of returning to this unforgettable slice of paradise in Crete.
